| In 1980 this
project started out as a deal with FORD to produce factory-authorized Mustang
convertibles. They had beaten Carson Concepts and ASC(American Sunroof ) for the
contract since IM had the best mechanism developed. The mechanism was like a
Mercedes 220, finished with boot and folded down to a 4 ½" stack under the
cover. Ford later pulled the plug on the deal for one reason or another. The ASC McLaren is a direct descendant of the Intermeccanica Mustang convertible. Approximately 1200 non-factory authorized Mustang convertibles were produced. |
