"Envemo"
Posted by Larry on Jun-17-01 at 10:08 PM (EST)
I have an Enemo cabriolet super 90. Any info on these cars available? any other owners of these great cars. I understand there were less than 100 of these cabs manufactured.
Would like to get some info on the company from Texas that were involved in the manufacture.
Are the peices still around somewhere?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

You´re right Greg. You can have the look of a 356 and the low cost of VW parts. When I bought my coupe I replaced steering box, ball joints, tie rods, shock absorbers, etc. and the cost was just ridiculous. I belive that Envemo was the only company in the world to produce a 356 coupe replica. The ride is just great and, being careful about losing the rear end, the car corners quite well.

Larry

I have a file somewhere in my computer with a full history of that car in English. I will look it through and send you a copy. But making it short...

There was a guy in Brazil, producer of military vehicles, who owned an original 356 Super 90. With the downcycle of the military days in Brazil, he gradually went after a new line of business. He took his original 356 apart and copy the body on a fiberglass form. Parts and trims were all original imported from Germany. The chassi derives from the old buddy VW Bettle, in Brazil called FUSCA. The chassi is basically that of an original 356 but with a few differences from the developments that VW put through it along the years. The suspension and engige, as well, were all VW FUSCA's. Originally they came out with a 1600cc, gasoline.

Seats were in leather with serial numbers marked close to the door side, near the knob that controls the reclining level. The car was exported basically to Japan, US and Germany.

There were produced about 300 cars, of which about 100 were convertibles. There are valued today pretty well in Brazil, as only a few ones original are left. Mine is a ruby red, 1800cc, wonderful to drive. People love it when they see it. Right now I am living in Italy and could not bring it with me. It is sitting there in my garage at the beach, covered, waiting for me. Or I am waiting for the moment to drive it again...

If you need details on how to get parts, I got a pretty good supplier from Germany, with prices well bellow market's average.

Well. That was about it. If you can send me a picture of yours, I would like to see it too.

Regards

Mario

Posted by greg stout on Oct-31-04 at 03:24 AM (EST)
Yes...a regular 356 sized windshield will fit an Envimo coupe. Be aware that there are two sizes that look similar...a "shorter" one (ie measured from dash to roof, not side to side) that was used in the 356 A thru "early" T-5 coupes & the "taller" one used in the T-6"late" B & C coupes....I believe the Envemo (coupe & Cabrio.) both use the "Taller" size.

Posted by Beck Speedster on Jan-19-05 at 08:06 AM (EST)
Hello all. I just ran across this thread today. Actually I just found this particular forum too.

Anyway, my father was the US importer for ENVEMO, and worked on the project with the late Luis Consalves, who originated the project. Luis' father ran a company called ENJEZA (sp?) who built the military vehicles mentioned above. Luis had a small corner of that plant, where he spent all of his time on the 356C's.

The molds for the cabriolet still exist and are in our factory. This is the same factory that made them for Blue Ray, which was a venture between my father, Chuck Beck and Jim Simpson, in Houston, TX. BTW, InterAmerica, LTD. is still a current company (also my father's) and GCE was also one of his former companies.

We still have numerous ENVEMO parts both in our US warehouse and in our Brazilian factory if anyone ever has a need for them. We are retooling the cabriolet project and will be making all of the parts again soon, although we have not decided if we will revamp the ENVEMO name, or market it under our BECK trade name.

Carey Hines

Hello Carey,
Interesting to know that your father was the US importer for Envemo. Luis Goncalves was a good friend of mine and died, in Sao Paulo, when a robber tried to take his vintage Triumph bike. He was shot to dead...
His father company name was Engesa, in SP.
Here in Brasil there's a company called Chamonix that claims that their cabrio is made from the original Envemo molds, but I see that they seem to be in your factory. Does the Beck company have any link with Chamonix?

What kind of Envemo parts you have? Bumper guards? I need them!
I would sugest you to use both names. Something like Beck Envemo cabrio. Here in Brasil the Envemo name is almost legendary.
Regards,
Luiz

Posted by Beck Speedster on Jan-19-05 at 02:19 PM (EST)
Luiz,

Luis Goncalves (sorry about the spelling)was a very good friend of my father as well. I met him only a few times at Pebble Beach. We visited his father, Angelo, a few months back when we were in SP. (By the way, I LOVE visiting Brazil. We typically stay in either Jarinu or Embu and it is SO beautiful!)
My father, along with Chuck Beck and the Masteguin family established Chamonix a number of years ago, after the Puma plant closed. That is where the ENVEMO molds are. We made a few cabriolets through the Blue Ray company, and later changed the tooling to use our 3" tubular steel frame, rather than the Brazilia chassis. I often refer to Chamonix as "our factory" as it was originally family owned (my family and the Masteguin family), and we hold the rights to all of the products, etc.
I don't have any bumper guards here, but can probably round some up for you. Again, they are a part we will be making again soon if you are not in a hurry.

Regards,

Carey

Carey,
I see. The Chamonix is an operation that belongs to your father (Blue Ray),Chuck Beck and the Masteguin family. The cars are very well finished and I guess that they're sent to several countries.
Well, since the good old Brasilia chassis is a thing of the past, the tube frame is a perfect replacement. Probably you and the other owners are not producing the Envemo Super 90 coupe because it's more expensive to make.
I'm not sure, but Jarinu is the Chamonix hometown, right?
Well, I'm not in a hurry, so I can take the time to wait for the bumper guards. I'm rebuilding the engine of my coupe with a Mahle 1835cc kit, Engle W-110 280º camshaft and a pair of Weber 40.
Just keep me posted when the guards are available.
Regards,
Luiz

Hello,
I'm from Belgium, where i run with my friend Patrick a VW aircooled workshop.
We have an Envemo coupe (beige with brown interior) with a 1776cc and Fuschs alloys.
One of our customer fell in love with our car and found one for sale in California, he bought it (black with black interior) and bring it to us ...We fitted 4 discs brakes, Independant rear suspensions, air conditionning, semi-auto gearbox, 1776cc with dual 40'Webers, BAS exhaust,Fuschs alloys...
Normally, an other of our customer has bought also a blue one with blue interior(type 4 engine 1800 Porsche fan), hope the sale is Ok to see it soon and make a picture of the 3 in front of the shop!
I also know another one in France Grey with black interior(type 4 engine, very clean!)
These car is very great, well made and wonderfull...
We try to locate all of them here in Europe, not an everyday-seen car!!!
I have two friends who are still waiting to find a car (coupe), if anybody knows, please advise...thanks

Hello everybody,
Carey: I´m Juan from Argentina. I love the little beatiful 356 even more than the 911 but as there are very little ones in my country I´m always dreaming with the idea of importing a réplica. I have emailed several times to Chamonix in Brazil but I never have any answer from them. Do you know why?
By the way, What happen with the Envemo coupe moulds?

Juan,

I sent a reply to your e-mail. Glad to see you figured out how to post on the forum as well.
The coupe would take a complete retooling as the molds were not cared for and passed through many companies soon after ENVEMO was finished with them. They were not properly cared for after ENVEMO!
In regards to email to Chamonix. They forward many of the requests directly to me, but I do not recall one from you, sorry. They get tons of email, especially with all of the photos on the website., It looks as if they have 6 or 7 different cars/kits to sell, while currently we are only producing 2 (and working heavily to finish a few others!)
I have added your info to our s-90 folders and will keep you updated about the cabriolet project.

If anyone else would like to be added to the "list" feel freee to email me directly.

Regards

Carey

I think there would be a huge market for a beetle based 356 Replica. I owned a Silver '62 Super 90 but couldn't afford the maintenance. This bears further reseach. I wonder if it would be worth refurbishing the Envemo moulds or better to start over from scratch?

Hi everybody,

by surfing the internet I found this page by chance. And I read all articles with a lot of interest.

I drove an Envemo 356 Super 90 Coupe about 10 Years ago in Honolulu/Hawaii USA. Unfortunately I sold it when I went back home (because it was only a fake plastic Porsche ... stupid from me!). But I never forgot this car.

Has anybody seen this Car again?
Dark blue exterior paint,
green windows,
beige leather interior and
chrome steel rims.
And of course no rost.

What a beauty...

Best Regards and all the best to all You luck pastic Porsche owners
